My GP suggested I contact Comcare
You've been referred and want to know what happens next
Your GP knows what they're doing
If your doctor has suggested Comcare, it's because they think we might be a good fit for where you're at right now. We work with people who are dealing with mental health challenges or addiction, and who want support to live well in their community — not just manage symptoms.

What your GP has (or hasn't) sent us
Your GP may have already submitted a referral on your behalf, or they may have suggested you get in touch yourself. Either way, you can submit a short referral form online or call us directly. You don't need to wait for paperwork to come through first.
If you're being referred for Community Support Work specifically, this goes through our Community Access Pathway (CAP) process. For everything else, the Generic Referral Form covers it.

What the Triage process looks like
Once your referral comes in, our Triage Practitioner reviews it and will contact you to have a conversation. They're there to help you navigate — both within Comcare's services and the wider sector. They won't expect you to know exactly what you need.

Timeline
Most people hear back within a few working days. If your situation is urgent, say so when you call or in the form — we'll do our best to respond quickly.

If Comcare isn't the right fit
Sometimes our services aren't quite right for someone's situation — and that's okay. Our Triage team can point you toward other services in Canterbury that might be a better match. You won't be left without a next step.
